Complications Caused By Infant and Pediatric GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)

Luckily for most, reflux doesn't cause any complications and it's outgrown in a few months, leaving behind no indication there was ever a problem.  Unfortunately, there area  percentage of children for whom this is not the case.  These kids suffer from GERD and believe me when I tell you, they suffer.  It's unfair to these kids that so many do outgrow it and have no ill effects because it perpetuates the notion that reflux is no big deal, or isn't anything serious.  In reality I suppose that's true, it's GERD that causes the problems; however, the average person doesn't know the difference so it all tends to get lumped together with the happy spitters or minor refluxers--when in fact, most kids suffering from GERD can and do suffer some pretty serious and even life threatening complications.
